Junk email, or spam as it is more often known, has become a persistent nuisance for everyone who uses email. Spam continues to increase daily, as does the cost for Internet Service Providers and email users who have to deal with the mess.
What is HiWAAY doing about the ever-increasing amounts of junk email (spam)?
The number of HiWAAY-blocked spam messages to users @hiwaay.net has increased exponentially.
HiWAAY considers spam much more than just an annoyance. We are constantly working on ways to help all HiWAAY customers deal with the huge volumes of spam. In November 2008 we upgraded to AnteSpam spam-filtering services.
These things have been done to help our users deal with unwanted junk email. And we are constantly evaluating other possible solutions to continue improving spam filtering for all HiWAAY customers.
HiWAAY protects your privacy.
HiWAAY has had a long-standing policy of keeping your username private. HiWAAY does not give away or sell its customers' usernames. Read HiWAAY's Antispam Policy and our Privacy Policy for more specific information.
What can you do to help?
The most common questions people seem to have about spam are: How did the spammer get my email address and how do I stop the spam? Unfortunately, there's no way to completely stop it, but it's certainly possible to slow it down.

AnteSpam is our newest addition to e-mail filtering.
Although no email virus filtering service is 100 percent effective, this virus-identifying and blocking technology can prevent most contaminated emails from ever reaching your computer and causing damage to computer files and networks.
How does email virus filtering work?
The anti-virus software will scan all incoming email messages to HiWAAY's subscribers. When it detects an infected message, it will completely remove the email. It also detects certain known phishing targets and deletes messages attempting to steal personal information.
Is this all the virus protection you need?
No. One hundred percent filtering is not guaranteed. AnteSpam email virus filtering is NOT a replacement for anti-virus software on your computer. Anti-virus software protects your computer from far more threats than just viruses attached to emails. HiWAAY recommends that all our customers always run up-to-date anti-virus software on all vulnerable computers connected to the Internet.
Can you choose to opt out of virus filtering?
AnteSpam email filtering is optional for all hiwaay.net customers. To opt out, call HiWAAY Technical Support and they will opt out your email address. You can also opt back in by calling HiWAAY Techical Support.
